Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor


During a summer road trip from our home in Massachusetts out to the Niagara Falls area, we scheduled in time to stop at 4 different NPS sites. For the most part these were parks we had never heard of, and were small enough sites to explore in a short amount of time we had. They were great places to stop at and stretch our legs on our road trip while learning about the historic significance of the area we were visiting.

When planning the trip we did not realize that the route of our travels would take us all along the Erie Canal, and that all of the stops we picked out were designated parts of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor. We only discovered this fact through the Passport Stamps offered at the parks.

It was great to able able experience a group of parks like this and get to understand how they all were connected through this canal way.
